我要“上”电视了，网上可直播
准确地说是我的声音或者简介仅仅有可能要上电视了，而且我在上面顶多只会一闪而过，因为这个半个小时的电视节目主题不是我，而是一位热心于盲人职业培训的老太太和她的培训学生。更新：我的那部分内容被电视台编导“无情地”删减了。尽管如此，能够参与到其中还是比较高兴。

学好英语的秘诀：四字真言
实际上本文的题目应该是：学好外语的秘诀。可是，我觉得，要谈的其实是英语，需要更具体一点，就权且用这个题目。实际上，这个”四字真言”我觉得也适用于其他外语的学习。
说翻译——中国式英语和欧化汉语
狭 义的中国式英语大概是指中国的道路、各种营业场所、媒体等等各种场合中出现的看似英语字母其实并不是“英语”的文字。这类中国式英语大都是劣质翻译的产 物。广义一点的中国式英语，也许还能有一点正面的色彩，大概可以包括所有具有中国特色的“好”英语。中国的事情用英语说，中国特色似乎是免不了的了。

“龙”之dragon和loong英译之辩
各位可能还记得我写了两篇长文，里面列出了“中国的少数民族” 不是“原住民”的理由。因有感于最近“屠龙”的风波，特为两篇旧闻加上了“前言”－－－后加的前言，有马后炮之嫌。

后加的前言：虽然我在这里说了很多“中国的少数民族”不是“原住民”的“理由”，但是我一直都知道：语言的“习惯”基本上都是优先于“理由”的；说话、写字这东西，即使错了，如果错的时间长了，范围广了，错了的也就慢慢地变成对的了。之所以后加上这前言，是有感于汉字“龙”之dragon和loong英译之辩。在下觉得，即使当年把“龙”翻译成dragon是个错误，现在“龙＝dragon”在语言使用中也已经是既成的事实。所以，即使英文中的dragon含义为吐火的邪恶怪物，那么现在烦请国外出版的字典在新版中再加上一条：dragon是中国人具有数千年历史的图腾，含义为吉祥、力量、雄伟等等，以图让再次检视新版词典的读者知道中国的dragon乃一个好东西。否则，字典反映不了语言的实际使用情况，是失职。于2006年12月20日

关于这个问题，我从一位翻译老前辈的书里得知：这个词翻译错了。
后来我自己也查了一些词典，并研究了-ism这个后缀。

Amway and I
I met a couple the other day when they were referred to me by a friend of mine for translating a letter and a certificate to be presented to the French Embassy for visa application. The couple are Amway’s Executive Diamond distributors. One of my former colleagues later told me that Amway’s Diamond distributors hold high positions and earn a lot without having to work. It didn’t came to me as a surprise when the couple later approached me by inviting my wife and me to their home for a “simple meal”. I thought they had their own ax to grind. But, I nonetheless accepted their invitation because the meeting might give me something inspiring.
