《罗马帝国衰亡史》里一句话的翻译能弄出多少故事来

读《罗马帝国衰亡史》第二卷时，看到一句话：“But if the clergy were guilty of any crime which could not be sufficiently expiated by their degradation from an honorable and beneficial profession, the Roman magistrate drew the sword of justice, without any regard to ecclesiastical immunities. ”作为当代的中国人，我笑了。这不就是“撤销党内一切职务，移交司法机关处理”吗？党内处分从轻到重依次为“警告”、“严重警告”、“撤销党内职务”、“留党察看”、“开除党籍”。基督教的情况我也不太熟悉，但我可以猜“开除党籍”等于“逐出教会”（excommunication）。“开除党籍”和“逐出教会”的可怕之处都是组织内的“温暖”全都没有了，马克思和上帝都无法再拯救他们。 于是我就想翻译一下这句话，一番修改之后，得到一个版本：
